Store Lookout is designed to monitor operational exceptions with read-only access and visible connection health. Here is what the current implementation does.
DATA HANDLING

Operational data, with a narrower scope
Order queries and webhook processing deliberately exclude customer names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, and payment details from the operational records we retain.
Connection details protected at rest
Shopify access and refresh tokens, destination email addresses, webhook URLs, and routing keys use application-level encryption.
Records scoped to your store
Merchant records belong to a shop. Access checks and associations enforce store boundaries, and members have roles tied to their Shopify user IDs.
Configurable retention
Choose retention within the plan allowance. Scheduled cleanup removes eligible resolved alerts, inventory history, and audit events; webhook receipts are retained for no more than 30 days.
Uninstall and privacy handling
The app implements Shopify uninstall and mandatory privacy webhook handling. Uninstall processing removes the stored session credentials and shop-owned operational data.
HOW OBSERVATIONS BECOME ALERTS

Monitoring combines incoming Shopify events with periodic reconciliation. You can inspect connection health and request synchronization from the app.

Verify incoming events
Shopify webhook signatures are verified. Duplicate deliveries are handled idempotently, and raw webhook bodies are not retained.

Reconcile the store’s state
Periodic Shopify queries refresh orders, products, variants, and inventory. Synchronization checkpoints expose progress and failures.

Track the delivery
Alert delivery attempts, failures, retries, and manual resend actions are visible, alongside the context of the incident.
PRACTICAL LIMITS
Monitoring, with
honest expectations.
- Detection is not guaranteed to be instant. Shopify event delivery, reconciliation, and rule evaluation affect when a condition is observed.
- Catalog checks keep evidence for detected changes, not a full edit history. Same-count image replacements and changes that revert between observations may not be detected.
- Forecasts use observed inventory reductions; they are estimates and require enough history.
- Merchant contact details, team-member details, and delivery addresses can still be part of the app’s data. Excluding customer identity from operational order records does not mean the app processes no personal data.
- This page explains product behavior. It is not a formal privacy policy, compliance certification, or uptime commitment; launch documentation will need to reflect the actual hosting and operating setup.
